Right now, City legislators are negotiating the budget for Fiscal Year 2026 — and we need your help to make sure it reflects the needs of homebound older New Yorkers. Can you tell your council member to support additional funding for food programs in the budget?
By fully funding programs that make food accessible to homebound older adults, the City can help combat food insecurity, support dignity and wellbeing, and strengthen community ties — no one should go hungry simply because they can’t get to a grocery store or cook for themselves. Investing in home delivery is a cost-effective way to promote public health, ease caregiver burdens, and show that the City truly cares for its most vulnerable residents.
Our Budget and Policy Priorities
-
Invest $200,000 in Citymeals’ innovative pilot programs to get more food to the people who need it most and renew $500,000 in funding for our emergency meals program.
-
Invest $57 million in meal programs in Older Adult Centers across the City.
-
Pass Intro 770 and invest $21 million in home-delivered meals to require the City’s home-delivered meals program to provide a meal 365 days a year.
-
Increase baseline funding for the Community Food Connection (CFC) to $100 million to fund food pantries across the City.
